Whiteface Mountain

At 4,867 feet, Whiteface is the fifth highest peak in New York and one of the only Adirondack summits you can drive almost all the way to the top.  From the stone castle at 4,610 feet you hike the final stretch to 360-degree views stretching into Canada.  The Long Weekender says plan to spend the whole day, bring a sweater... it's windy up there, and fuel up at the 4610' Café in the castle before or after the hike.
