Gilded Age mansion turned museum with some of the most over-the-top rooms you'll see in New York Soaring ceilings, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, stained glass, the works. Rare manuscripts, original Beethoven scores, Dickens letters, that kind of thing. Better for older kids who are into history or art, but the building itself does most of the heavy lifting. Kids 12 and under get in free, and the whole museum is pay-what-you-wish Friday evenings 5–8pm.
