Old New-Gate Prison & Copper Mine - Seasonal, Newgate Road, East Granby, CT, USA
About
This started as a copper mine in the early 1700s before it became Connecticut's first official prison, and kids can walk through the actual underground tunnels once dug to reach the copper. It's got a wild history too, prisoners of war were held here during the Revolutionary War. Seasonal hours, so check before you go, and paid admission required.
