New Windsor Cantonment State Historic Site, Temple Hill Road, New Windsor, NY, USA
About
This is where George Washington led the fight for American independence and where his army spent their last winter of the Revolutionary War, building nearly 600 log huts to survive the cold. Reenactors bring the site to life with cannon firings and 18th-century games, and there's even a Purple Heart medal connection since the very first ones were awarded right here. Free admission.
