Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village
Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village, Meadowcroft Road, Avella, PA, USA
About
Archaeologists found evidence of people living under this rock overhang 19,000 years ago, making it one of the oldest known sites of human activity in North America. Kids can tour the rockshelter itself, then walk through recreated villages spanning 500 years, throwing a spear in a 16th-century Eastern Woodland village, exploring an 18th-century log cabin, and watching a blacksmith work at the 19th-century village. Open seasonally, May through late November.
