A mosaic tile embedded in the sidewalk at the corner of 7th Avenue South and Christopher Street, roughly the size of a pizza slice, with one of the best backstories in the city. When the city seized the Hess family's building in the 1910s to build the subway, a sloppy surveyor missed this tiny corner. The city asked them to donate it for the public sidewalk. They refused, and in 1922 had it tiled with the words "Property of the Hess Estate Which Has Never Been Dedicated for Public Purposes." Free and always there.
