Tour a real open-pit garnet mine that's been producing gorgeous garnets for over a century, with a guide who walks you through the geology and history before you dig your own. Kids get to sift for garnets to keep, sold by weight at around $2/lb, and closed-toe shoes are required since the terrain is rocky. Tours run 90 minutes, open Tuesday through Sunday.
