Fort Montgomery State Historic Site

This is where American troops fought and lost a Revolutionary War battle for control of the Hudson River in 1777, and you can still walk the fort's remains on the cliff above the river. The museum has life-size battle mannequins and a short film recreating the attack, and staff fire the reproduction cannons for special events. Free to visit.
