This is one of the biggest coastal forts in the country, sitting right at the mouth of Newport Harbor. The fort tour takes you through underground tunnels and up on top of the fort walls, with views over Narragansett Bay. Even if you skip the tour, the 105 acres around the fort are free to wander, with picnic spots and trails. Fort tour requires paid admission, with discounts for kids and families.
