The Fire Island Lighthouse is the tallest in New York State, with 182 steps to the top and 360-degree views. The grounds include a Keeper's Quarters museum, the original Fresnel lens, and a Boathouse... all free to explore. You park at Robert Moses State Park Field 5 and walk the boardwalk through the dunes to get there. Tower tours are around $10 for adults and $5 for kids, but climbers must be at least 42 inches tall.
