You can walk the stone ruins of two 18th-century forts here for free, right on the shore of Lake Champlain, with trails winding along the water and a bird conservation area if you spot over 180 species that pass through. The museum costs a small fee to get into, with kids 12 and under free, and dogs on leash are welcome on the grounds.
