This is the ONLY fully intact charcoal-fired iron furnace still standing where it was built anywhere in the Western Hemisphere, running from 1742 all the way up to 1883. Kids can walk right into the giant red stone buildings and see the equipment used to actually make iron, with tour guides walking you through how it all worked.
